Jordan

Jordan

When to visit?

Did you know? What you see of Petra today is only about 15% of the total city. The remaining 85% is still buried underground, waiting to be excavated.

Peak Season: March – May and September to November. These months offer the best weather of the year. These months are the busiest for main attractions.

Hot season: June – August. Likely to experience intense heat.

Off-Peak: December – February. Cold weather – you may experience snow. Cheaper prices.

Card, Cash, or both?

Credit cards are widely accepted in Jordan; however, it is smart to carry cash, particularly when traveling to more rural areas. When traveling to Wadi Rum or Petra locals ofter will offer camels or horses for transportation and will only take cash.

Connectivity & Tech

  • Network Reality:  Cellular data will work great in most towns but it will cut out completely in more rural areas or deep in the desert. Download your offline maps of the Petra Archaeological Park before you head in.

  • Power & Plugs: Jordan uses Type G (UK-style), Type C (Euro), and occasionally Type D. A universal adapter is a must. The voltage is 230V.

My most uncalibrated experience

While exploring the outer reaches of the city, I met a group of young Bedouins who offered to let us ride their horses for a few dinar. What started as a casual ride quickly turned into an impromptu race. Suddenly, we weren’t just “touring” an archaeological site—we were flying through the desert, the wind whipping past as we kicked up ancient dust. It probably wasn’t the safest decision I’ve ever made, but the adrenaline was unmatched and I made local friends.
