Card, Cash, or both?
Credit cards are widely accepted; however, I recommend carrying cash for certain places, including restaurants and shops.
Connectivity & Tech
-
Network Reality: There is good cellular service in Russia with an international plan; however, a local SIM card is recommended.
-
Power & Plugs: Russia uses Type C and F (Standard European). The voltage is 220V.
My most uncalibrated experience
My favorite moment in Russia was far away from the big tourist centers, in the city of Saransk. It’s a small, welcoming city south of Moscow. We were just walking through the streets when we stumbled upon a massive parade. The performers were wearing incredible, colorful costumes and performing traditional dances. Despite being a smaller city, the energy was amazing—the people were so welcoming and proud of their heritage.
