Thailand

When to visit?

Did you know? In Thailand, the elephant is the only animal in the kingdom to have its own national holiday (Thai Elephant Day on March 13th) and even its own "National Elephant Identification Card." Because elephants are so culturally and spiritually vital, every captive elephant in Thailand must be registered with the government. This system was designed to protect them and track their heritage, similar to how a person has a passport.

Peak Season: November – February. These months offer great weather and much lower humidity.

Shoulder: March – May. Extreme heat! However, it can still be a great time to visit and enjoy the costal regions. Sunscreen is a must!

Monsoon: June – October. These are the rainiest months. Severe storms can occur during your visit.

Card, Cash, or both?

Credit cards are widely accepted throughout Thailand; however, it is very smart to carry some cash – one of the best things about Thailand is the street food and the markets (these places mostly only accept cash)!

Connectivity & Tech

  • Network Reality: The service throughout Thailand is great. Even some remote areas have good service. Local SIM cards are very affordable.

  • Power & Plugs: Power & Plugs: Thailand uses Type A, B, and C. Most sockets are “universal,” but a high-quality universal adapter is recommended for a stable connection. The voltage is 220V.

My most uncalibrated experience

My most uncalibrated moment was realizing that “majestic” is an understatement when it comes to describing an elephant. I spent a day hiking through the mountains of Chiang Mai alongside these giants. Seeing them navigate the forest with such quiet grace—eating as they went and moving with a deliberate, ancient rhythm—completely changes your perspective on size and power. The hike ended at a remote lake where we all went in for a swim. In the water, these 4-ton animals transformed from forest hikers into weightless, playful swimmers.
