Andorra

Andorra

When to visit?

Did you know? Andorra is the only country in the world ruled by two "Co-Princes" who aren't even from the country. One is the President of France and the other is the Bishop of Urgell from Catalonia, Spain. This unique arrangement dates back to 1278, making it one of the oldest power-sharing agreements in history. It essentially means that the French President is technically a "Prince" of another country simply by winning an election in France. While their roles are mostly ceremonial today, they still represent a centuries-old bridge between the two powerful neighbors that surround this tiny Pyrenean enclave.

Winter: December – April. These months offer cold snowy weather.

Summer: May – August. The summer offers longer beautiful days. Perfect for maximizing your days during your visit.

Off-Peak: September – November. Chilly weather but less crowds.

Card, Cash, or both?

Credit cards are widely accepted throughout the country.

Connectivity & Tech

  • Cellular Service: Service is great throughout the country. If you get a SIM card in an EU country make sure to keep in mind that Andorra is not an EU member. US carrier international plans work well.

  • Andorra uses Type F (Standard European) plugs. The voltage is 230V.

My most uncalibrated experience in Argentina

My most uncalibrated moment was experiencing the extreme “microclimates” of the Pyrenees. I was sitting on a balcony in the north of the country when a massive snowstorm rolled in. In what felt like seconds, the world turned into a magical, white-out wonderland. But the real surprise came the next day. We drove just 30 minutes south to Andorra la Vella, and it was as if the storm had never happened. While we were surrounded by snow in the north, the capital’s streets were completely clear. It’s a vivid reminder that in a country this vertical, 15 miles can be the difference between a winter land and a dry mountain spring.
