England

When to visit?

Did you know? Stonehenge wasn't just built to be looked at—it was built to be heard. Experts recently used 3D models to find that the stones acted like a giant outdoor theater. If you were standing inside the circle 4,000 years ago, a voice or a drum would sound loud and echoing, almost like you were inside a massive cathedral. But if you moved just a few feet outside the circle, the sound would disappear and become a quiet muffle. It shows that Stonehenge was a private world of sound, meant only for the people inside to experience something magical and separate from everyone else.

Peak – summer time: June – August. Warm and sunny. The country can become very busy.

Shoulder: April – May & September – October. These months offer decent weather to be outside. Not as hot or cold.

Off-Peak: November – March. These months are cold and wet. December often gets the most rain out of the year.

Card, Cash, or both?

Credit cards are widely accepted throughout England. ATMs are very accessible if needed.

Connectivity & Tech

  • Network Reality: Our international roaming plan through our US carrier worked well everywhere – mostly. We had some cellular connectivity issue in some parts of London for some reason.

  • Power & Plugs: England uses Type G (the square three-prong plug). The voltage is 230V.

My most uncalibrated experience

My favorite moment in England was visiting a London pub with my father. Before I went, I thought a pub was just a place to grab a drink, but it’s so much more. The interiors are honestly beautiful—it feels like you’re sitting inside a living museum. Eating fish and chips surrounded by all that history and dark wood made the meal taste even better. It’s the ultimate “uncalibrated” experience because it’s where the city’s grand history meets its everyday, cozy local life.
