Portugal

When to visit?

Did you know? The Moors controlled large parts of what is now Portugal for over 500 years (from 711 until 1249). Their influence was so deep that it is literally written into the map you see today. If you look at a map of Portugal, a lot of places have names that starts with "Al," which has an Arabic origin, as "al" means "the" in Arabic.

Peak – summer time: June – August. These months offer great weather – it can get very hot some days. There are more crowds.

Shoulder: April – May & September – October. These months offer pleasant weather with fewer crowds.

Off-Peak: November – March. These months are colder and there are higher chances of rain.

Connectivity & Tech

  • Network Reality: Our international roaming plan through our US carrier worked well everywhere.

My most uncalibrated experience

We had spent the day trekking up and down Lisbon’s famous hills, and by nightfall, we found ourselves in a tiny, nameless restaurant hidden on a backstreet. It was filled with locals, not tourists. We had just ordered dessert when the room went quiet and a live Fado performance started right next to our table. It was raw, emotional, and totally unexpected—a perfect “uncalibrated” cultural experience that we hadn’t planned for, but will never forget.
